Mixed results for the New England teams in the inaugural week of Atlantic Premiership Rugby, with Boston RFC taking an important road win in New York against Old Blue, while the Boston Irish Wolfhounds were handed a defeat at the hands of NYAC.

In Canton, hosts Boston Irish Wolfhounds were forced to play a lot of defense against NYAC, which they did solidly for the first twenty minutes. It was the Wolfhounds who scored first, scrumhalf Mike Durant scoring a try in the corner, the Paddy Owens conversion was good from the sideline.

In an announcement made on Tuesday July 15th, Mystic River RFC and Middlesex Barbarians Rugby Club declared the two teams were merging. (See http://www.mysticrugby.com/ for the announcement).

Mystic has been a regular on the local Division 1 circuit for years, and the club has had several recent playoff experiences and has successfully allocated time to it’s youth program. The Boston Irish Wolfhounds wrestled the New England title away from Boston RFC in a bruising and tense encounter by a score of 13-7. In picturesque Newport Rhode Island on May 18th, the Wolfhounds never trailed in the game, taking advantage of the wind in the first half to take a 13-0 halftime head and then hung on as Boston continued to pressure right to the end.
